Houston, We have a Problem....

Jake, the hearing 'wonder' in our family (which isn't sayin' a whole lot) informed me this morning that his hearing aid was broken....which is kind of a bummer, except it wasn't actually broken. Jake's ear is what is not working. We've been there, done that, with all of the other kids, but Jake was our stable child. The one with the mild to moderate loss, who we've never really had to worry about (at least from a hearing perspective). Our wonderful audiologist got him in first thing this morning, and I was sure there was some negative pressure in the ear, or something. But no- no pressure issues, no fluid, and no hearing (well at most frequencies). He ranges from roughly 70, at the two lowest frequency ranges, and drops to 90-110 at the rest. I think 8000 bump up a little bit. We need his new ear molds now to help with the horrific feedback. Fun Fun Fun!

Oh ugh :(. I SO hate that! I had the sudden hearing losses myself...I know how frustrating that has to be :(. I am sorry...even when you've done it before, it has to be difficult to do it yet again ((hugs)).

dang, so what about school til he gets some amplification?
girl, I don't know if the 8000 hz bump up is even worth mentioning. Well, you know what to do Mama. Sounds a little like my house, you just never know what we'll be doing or where we'll be each day. Go w/the flow! So is the other ear still at mild/moderate??

Yes-
He still has one ear that hears well, and is doing a great job compensating :) It really hasn't seemed to phase him at all- must be nice :)

Wow. Well at least he's old enough to tell you its not working. Did the doc mention CIs for the future, or are you expecting it to fluctuate back a little?

I have no idea! I'm not even sure he'd qualify as his other ear is still so good, but I'd rather do it sooner vs. later. I'm too tired to think about it right now, but need to....
Em goes in this afternoon for a tune-up as well.

Oh, my! Kids always keep you on your toes. At least his other ear is stable for the moment, though I suppose he might be monitored rather closely for a while. Thinking of you guys!
